For Kiran Kumar, a resident of Texla Apartment, it was a double whammy. Apart from the shock of seeing the underconstruction building crumbling into pieces in front of her eyes, her flat also suffered considerable damages when debris from the next door building fell on her balcony.

Texla apartment is constructed around 15 feet away from the collapse site. The debris of the underconstruction building that came down on Saturday, inflicted heavy damage to at least four flats at Texla Apartments and crushed four cars and three two-wheelers completely.

The incident that occurred around 3pm on Saturday took Texla Apartment residents by surprise. "We were at home and my son just returned from school when we felt the entire apartment shaking heavily and later a duststorm engulfed us. We are still unable to overcome the incident," said Kumar.

However, the residents had a narrow escape as no one was present in the side lane of Texla Apartment when the incident occurred. HV Malik, a resident of the apartment, said that the builder violated norms and several representations were made to the district administration and GDA officials."No one paid any heed to our requests."
