NIA chargesheets Maoists for killing Congress men

Over 150 cadre of the outlawed CPI(Maoist) ambushed the Parivartan Yatra convoy of the Chhattisgarh Congress and killed 27 party men, their supporters and security men, said the National Investigating Agency (NIA) in its chargesheet regarding the Jheeram valley massacre.

Over 150 cadre of the outlawed CPI (Maoist) ambushed the Parivartan Yatra convoy of the Chhattisgarh Congress and killed 27 party men, their supporters and security men, said the National Investigating Agency (NIA) in its chargesheet regarding the Jheeram valley massacre.

The attack had taken place on May 25 last year, when Chhattisgarh Congress chief Nand Kumar Patel, his son Dinesh, former Union minister Vidyacharan Shukla, senior leader Mahendra Karma who once led anti-Maoist movement Salwa Jadum and others were killed.

According to the chargesheet, the attack was part of the tactical counter offensive campaign launched between February and May every year. The chargesheet has been filed against nine Maoists who were arrested during the probe.
