Goa police spokesperson Atmaram Deshpande said that NIA has intimated South Goa district and sessions court on
Wednesday that they have taken over the investigation of the blast that occurred on October 16.

"The cases are handed over under NIA act 2008," the spokesman said.

The Centre had ordered handing over the investigation of Margao blast from SIT to NIA, a federal agency formed to
probe terror-related events after 26/11 Mumbai attacks.

Deshpande today told PTI that NIA has already filed two different cases in connection with the blast.

The explosion at Margao is treated as a case different to that of planting of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) at Sancoale, a village 20 kms away from capital city of Panaji.

NIA has taken over the case suspecting a larger conspiracy in the blast, he said.
