Night cleaning yet to gain momentum
NIGHT CLEANING of roads is yet to get an impetus in the city owing to alleged indifferent attitude of Nagar Nigam authorities towards the payment of safai workers engaged in the task.
Nearly 60 workers have been engaged by the Nagar Nigam administration on the payment of Rs 972 per month to each of them for the night cleaning of roads.
These workers are expressing resentment against the discriminatory payment to them.
Notably, the NN Administrator and District Magistrate Amrit Abhijat had inaugurated the night cleanling programme in the city from Nakhas Kohna on Sunday night on the pattern of Hyderabad city.
A delegation of Nagar Nigam officials visited Hyderabad and Vijayawda cities recently to study the civic arrangement there.
Several night cleaning staff alleged that though the NN administrator launched night cleaning here but he did not ensure the payment of similar amount as being given to night safai workers in Hyderabad.
The night staff in Hyderabad get more than Rs 2000 per month. Consequently these workers are disenchanted with the much hyped night cleaning programme.
Concerned with feeling of night safai staff, the administrator has asked the NN officers to take up the issue in right earnest.
Fresh separate tender is likely to be floated for night sanitary staff.
To recall, six main roads have been selected by Nagar Nigam in first phase of night cleaning in the city area.
They are road from Chowk to Tulsi crossing in Civil Lines, Shahganj crossing to Sulaki crossing, MG Marg, Sardar Patel Marg, Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg and road from Maharana Pratap Statue crossing to Luxmi Talkies crossing in Katra.
Cleaning is taking place on these roads from 10.30 pm to 1.30 am.
Abhijat has once again appealed the citizens to cooperate in the night cleaning drive by dumping their house and commercial establishment waste on the road by 9 pm daily so that it may be cleaned during the night cleaning drive.
