Nine persons were on Tuesday killed and several others injured as heavy rains lashed major parts of Uttar Pradesh, official sources said in Lucknow.

Five persons were killed in Lakhimpur Kheri district, two died killed in Bahraich district and one death each was reported from Orai and Balrampur districts in rain related incidents, including wall collapse and lightning.
In Orai, a 17-year-old boy Jaiprakash was killed and his friend Prakash was injured when they were struck by lightning in Dadri village.
According to the Central Water Commission, heavy to moderate rain was recorded in many parts of the state in the last 24 hours.
Maximum 250 mm rainfall was recorded at Gumtia in Kannuaj district, followed by 172.6 mm in Palliakalan and 115.6 mm in Sharda Nagar both in Lakhimpur Kheri district, it said.
It said 109 mm rainfall was recorded at Kartaniyaghat in Bahraich, 110.2 mm in Moradabad, 68 mm in Kanpur dehat, 42.4 mm in Fatehgarh, 36 mm in Kanpur, 42 mm in Bijnore, 40 mm in Bareilly, 44 mm in Sitapur, 47 mm in Barabanki and 21 mm in Balrampur.
Heavy rain continued to lash Lucknow, which received 15 mm rainfall till early morning, the report said.
