"We have not got any report or communication from the Union Home Ministry in this regard," Home department sources said when asked if it had been contacted by Centre on the fate of the convict.

State's Advocate-General Balai Roy said that his office too had no information.

Dhananjoy's execution was stayed on June 24 by the President, after receiving a clemency plea from the convict's wife. In case the mercy petition is rejected, the West Bengal government has 21 days to hang the man found guilty of raping and murdering 16-year-old Hetal Parekh in Kolkata in 1990.
