NO DIAMOND rings! City V-Day couples choose to say hi with just roses keeping one hand in the pocket!

Why so? Because, majority of college-goers and middle-class lovers didn’t want to make V-Day ‘hello-hi’ an expensive affair.
The prime reason for low gold and diamond jewellery sales is that most youngsters who go out to make a proposal to their beloved on Valentine’s Day are college-goers surviving on pocket money from parents and are not working professionals. This diminishes their capacity to purchase even a small a diamond studded ring or gold rings on Valentine’s Day.
The rich kids borrow sufficient money from their parents to afford an expensive gold or diamond jewellery, but that is an entirely different clientele for the jewellers in the city. And this is clearly getting reflected in less than expected footfalls registered in branded jewellery showrooms on Tuesday to buy exclusive gold and diamond jewellery.
“Most youngsters look for something big while choosing a diamond jewellery. If you choose a bigger diamond, the prices automatically go up depending upon the size of the diamond. And even if you choose a very small diamond jewellery, the price range starts from Rs 5,000. One can clearly witness anger and frustration among youngsters not being able to afford diamonds as they are an expensive gift on the Valentine’s Day,” S P Mishra, Assistant Manager of ORRA showroom in Hazratganj told HT Live.
He said youngsters prefer to buy rings and pendants. There have been youngsters coming in to buy diamond jewellery but not in hoardes as one might have wished on a day like this (Valentine’s Day).
At “Tanishq” jewellery showroom in Hazratganj, the sales staff was waiting for more youngsters to step in and do their shopping for Valentine’s Day. “The sales are sluggish right now. It could just be that most youngsters are celebrating right now and would do the shopping later in the evening. The young customers right now are choosing errings and finger rings,” Sudhanshu Saxena, Boutique In-charge of Motorfab Sales Pvt Ltd, the owners of “Tanishq” showroom told HT Live.
The value of the bill being generated as far as youngsters were concerned at “Tanishq” is between Rs 3000 to Rs 5,000. There is not awareness about platinum jewellery so it doesn’t seem to be in the hot list of youngsters. The same does roaring sales in a market like Delhi”, he added.
