THE SAMAJWADI Party today said there was no need for the party general secretary Amar Singh to resign from his Rajya Sabha seat for holding the post of chairman Uttar Pradesh Development Council.
A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting of SP Parliamentary Board that Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav presided here today.
“There is no need for Amar Singh to resign,” said Samajwadi Party general secretary Ram Gopal Yadav while talking to media persons here today.
Singh had in fact gone to Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat to tender his resignation from his Rajya Sabha seat, said Yadav adding the decision was later left to the party’s parliamentary board.
Meanwhile, Mulayam Singh Yadav termed Sonia Gandhi’s move as high level drama and said as Congress led UPA government failed to shield the Congress president Sonia Gandhi by redefining the office of profit issue, she had no other way except to resign from the post.
Addressing a public meeting at Sinduri Binduri locality in Gorakhpur in support of SP candidate Rambhual Nishad, Yadav categorically ruled out Amar Singh’s resignation from Rajya Sabha. “The party has directed him to continue on his post and we are ready to face any situation,” he said.
