Union Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav has said on Sunday that there were no immediate proposals to hike ordinary passenger fare.

"By reducing the passenger fare by a rupee, the railways had earned Rs 1,000 crore last year," the minister said.
Lalu was on his way to Baripada to inaugurate the 52-kilometre-long Rupsa-Baripada railway line, which was recently converted to a broad-gauge line from a narrow-gauge one.
Referring to the demand made by the local Chamber of Commerce and other organisations for the construction of a railway over-bridge in the area, Yadav said that the work would be taken up after the land was provided for the purpose.
