According to jail authorities, white ants damaged the records from September 16, 1975 to June 1976. No records have been maintained of these detainees at the police stations also from October 27, 1975 to June 1976.

Following the announcement of the State government to honour MISA detainees, around 400 people filed applications.
Their applications were verified by the district authorities.
However, the administration has no record of about four dozen detainees and therefore they have been sidelined by the administration.
According to reports, the administration has prepared a list of 380 detainees from the district jail records. Out of them, 276 detainees belongs to Gorakhpur district while others belong to Maharajganj district. Jail authorities have also prepared a list of 44 detainees who died after being released.
Sources said that a MISA detainee Gyanendra Kumar Srivastav, resident of Pipri village under Hata police station of Kushinagar district, submitted his application requesting to check the jail records. When the administration started looking for the records, they found them missing and damaged by white ants.
Meanwhile, the district administration has made full preparation to send around 276 detainees to Lucknow on September 9 to honour them.
ADM city PK Agrawal has been nominated as the nodal officer in this regard. the administration had made food and lodging arrangements and the MISA detainees would leave for Lucknow by Pawan Gold buses.
