Officials said every year when water was released from Mettur dam, the farmers in the Cauvery ayacut areas in Erode,
Salem, Tiruchirapalli and Thanjavur would procure the 'certified paddy seeds' of various varieties from the society
and accordingly this year 130 tonnes of seeds valued at Rs 35 lakh had been stocked.

However, as water was not released from Mettur dam on the scheduled date of June 12 due to the poor storage, farmers had not bought the seeds, they said.
