The Congress on Monday charged the Vajpayee government with violating the model code of conduct by exploiting the recent success of the Indian cricket team through advertisements in the electronic media.

The party also ruled out the possibility of any truck with pre-poll allies of the BJP to form a government at the Centre.
Talking to mediapersons, Congress spokesmen S. Jaipal Reddy and Abhisekh Singhvi said the party will lodge a complaint with the EC on the government using cricket "unabashedly" to seek votes. "The Indian cricket team is not the property of a single political party and using it to get votes is a violation of the model code of conduct," they said adding, "the cricket team should not be dragged into politics".
Meanwhile, the Congress has posed nine questions to the PM regarding his stance towards Muslims. On Vajpayee's promise of jobs and financial aid to Muslims, the party wanted to know whether the PM has become a pseudo-secularist and was appeasing the minorities.
