Flummoxed, the troika reported the discrepancy to the Corporation’s Education Department and the mystery of the missing schools has reportedly been handed over to district education authorities for investigation. Meanwhile, in yet another goof-up, the Corporation deputed Hindi-language teachers to two separate Urdu medium schools in Khajrana and Chandan Nagar.

It all began when the civic body decided to appoint teachers on a contract basis following an appeal by district Education Officer Maya Malviya. The vacancies were advertised in local dailies and after interviews, social science and maths teachers were appointed to Govt Middle School No 29, Rajendra Nagar and Govt HS School, Moosakhedi respectively.
Imagine their surprise when, upon reporting for work at the designated places, the newly recruited teachers found that no schools existed at the site. Confounded, the teachers reported the matter to Mayor-in-Council member in-charge of Education Devkrishna Sankhla.

According to sources the MiC member is learnt to have verbally communicated the plaint to Malviya and there the matter rests at the moment.

Just a few days later another group of educators fell prey to shoddy management this time because four teachers unschooled in the language were appointed to schools where the medium of instruction is Urdu.

According to IMC sources the civic body hired science, social sciences and maths teachers for Govt HS School, Chandan Nagar and a maths teacher for Govt HS School, Khajrana.

Upon reporting at the educational institutions, however, the quartet was politely turned away by the school management for their lack of familiarity with Urdu. The officials further informed the crestfallen teachers that they had specifically asked for Urdu language educators to be appointed to their schools.

When contacted Sankhla admitted that the government schools to which the first batch of teachers was appointed no longer existed. “The schools have since been merged with other educational institutions. The confusion arose as the merger had not been listed in the Education Department’s records,” he declared.

The MiC member, however, seemed flustered when queried about the appointment of Hindi medium teachers to Urdu schools. “There are plenty of Urdu teachers. In fact, several such teachers were felicitated by the Corporation today itself,” he asserted and refused to venture any further comment after the non sequitur.
