Not a patch on

For men in their 20s and 30s, a receding hairline signals the ?end of their lives?, that unwanted jump from their youthful notoriety to an older (read: boring) look.

For all those women out there who feel they’ve been given a raw genetic deal — men don’t have to deal with menstruation, PMS, pregnancy and menopause, do they? — there are quite a few men who dare to retort that at least total hair loss is not one of their  problems.

This may be trivial for those who’ve never encountered a balding patch but, apparently, it causes enough anxiety and depression in men for them to want to pull their hair out (only they can’t). Considering the kind of emphasis society has placed on women and their crowning glory, it may now seem that this is as much true of men — at least in their own heads. And, as much as women may love to discuss the best treatments for their hair, it is the men who stand for hours in front of the mirror secretly examining each thinning strand.

For men in their 20s and 30s, a receding hairline signals the ‘end of their lives’, that unwanted jump from their youthful notoriety to an older (read: boring) look. No wonder they try to push it off as long as possible with wigs, hair transplant and, in absolute desperate times, by combing the few remaining strands across the head. Till, of course, they realise they’re better off because they don’t have to face a bad hair day.
