gone terribly wrong. NRI parents of a German girl, who wanted to settle her in India after marriage are now stuck in a legal battle.

The family has accused the groom and his father – a senior IAS officer of harassing their daughter for dowry and forcing
her to terminate her pregnancy.

Nisha (name changed) has alleged that the family wanted to be compensated, as she was “ugly and less educated” and the marriage with the NRI family was fixed with the hope that they would be rich and would fulfill their demands.

The father in law RP Bhardwaj, earlier posted as assistant Commissioner Gurgoan is fearing an arrest. He has recently secured an anticipatory bail from the court till August 8.

Bhardwaj’s counsel has denied the allegations and said that the girl, who is a German did not wish to live here and hence concocted the entire story.

Nisha has alleged that soon after her marriage to Ajay Bhardwaj, an employee in an MNC on December 9 2005, the family started harassing her for dowry. In a detailed complaint to the Crime Against Women Cell, the girl has alleged that Bhardwaj forced her parents to pay a sum of over 3 lakhs for their daughter’s admission to Gurgoan’s dental medical college under the NRI quota.

They also demanded that the marriage be hosted in a seven star hotel and all relatives to be distributed gold jewelry items etc. Besides this there were alleged dowry demands from time to time.

She has also accused her husband of forcing her to abort her child.

“He not only advised me to abort the child, but he also said that he suspected my fidelity”, she said.

The complaint also accuses Bhardwaj of misusing his official position in preparing forged documents against her. There are also allegations of confinement and cruelty.
