NRI files FIR against man for duping her

A 22-year-old NRI woman has filed a criminal complaint against a Ghaziabad-based businessman. Roopa (name changed on request) claims she left her parents, her executive job with a five-star hotel and an MBA course in Muscat to marry Pulkit Bharti (23).

She has now filed a case of criminal intimidation, illegal confinement and rape against Bharti, who, she says, duped her in the name of marriage.

Roopa met Bharti, son of a reputed business family in Raj Nagar, at a friend's party at Delhi, around 18 months ago. “After I left for Muscat, we had a year-long relationship over a social networking site. Later, we got married at a temple in Ghaziabad and also got our marriage registered,” she said.

It was after the 'marriage' on August 16 that Bharti made Roopa stay at a hotel in Ghaziabad and made no efforts to take her to his house. Bharti is absconding.

“The man is absconding and his parents have denied having any relations with him. We have sent teams to nab him,” said Raghubir Lal, SSP.
