NRI sent to jail in US for killing wife
Fazal Sayed, a native of Mumbai, was convicted by a Grenadan court for killing his wife in 2002.
A Grenadan court imposed a sentence of life in prison for a native of India who was extradited from Britain on condition that he be spared the death penalty if convicted of killing his wife on the Caribbean island.
Fazal Sayed, a native of Mumbai, was convicted for killing his wife, Gillian, whose body was found on a beach in July 2002.
Defence lawyer Anselm Clouden said he was considering an appeal.
"We are now considering the entire case and will sit and assess the conviction and sentence," he said on Monday.
Sayed, 34, left the island the day his wife's body was found and was caught by police in Britain.
Authorities said he planned to escape to his native country.
Britain agreed to extradite him in August 2004 after initially resisting the request because Grenada still has the death penalty.
