Karan Bhatia is likely to be nominated as the deputy US trade representative with the rank of ambassador.
US President George W. Bush has announced his intention to nominate Indian origin Karan K. Bhatia of Maryland, to be deputy US trade representative with the rank of ambassador.

Bhatia currently serves as assistant secretary for aviation and international affairs at the department of transportation. He previously served as deputy under secretary of commerce for industry and security.
Prior to that, he was chief counsel for the department of commerce's bureau of export administration.
Bhatia comes from a legal background. Before getting into the administration, he was an equity partner at the powerful Washington law firm of Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering.
He has a bachelor's degree from Princeton University, and a master's degree from the London School of Economics. He got his law degree from Columbia Law School.
