The Maharashtra state OBC Parishad on Friday asked Union Agriculture Minister and NCP chief Sharad Pawar to clarify his party's stand on reservations for OBCs as statements by the state Irrigation Minister Ajit Pawar were "creating confusion" on the issue.

Talking to reporters, Parishad president Hanumantrao Upare said while the NCP had issued a show-cause notice to party MLA Shalinitai Patil for demanding that reservations be provided on the basis of economic criteria, Ajit Pawar had said Patil's stand was in line with the party's manifesto.

Upare was in Kopargaon as part of his public awareness drive in support of reservations and the Mandal Commission's recommendations. The drive will end at Beed on August 4.

He said the Parishad's general convention, to be held at Shirdi on September 17, will be inaugurated by Union Railways Minister Lalu Prasad.
