A team of experts from Norway and the US surveyed 1,185 Norwegian men aged between 20 and 79 and asked them about various aspects of their sex life, including drive, erections and ejaculation, reported science portal EurekAlert.

The survey was carried out using a questionnaire first developed and tested in America in 1995.

The researchers found that men in their 50s could have satisfying sex lives than men in their 30s and 40s, recording similar levels to 20-29 years old.

Although there was a strong relationship between a man's advancing age and his declining sex drive and ability to perform, there wasn't such a strong link between age and overall sexual satisfaction, the researchers said.

Age only accounted for a variance of three percent in overall satisfaction, study co-author Professor Sophie D. Fossa said.
