The deceased belonged to Mandar village under Handia police station of the district. While most of the injured were devotees from Mandar village some others belonged to the neighbouring places.
They were going to the Bade Hanuman temple situated there and would have gone for a dip in the Sangam after offering prayers at the temple.
Commotion prevailed at the site after the accident due to the screams of the injured persons.
However, they were rushed to the SRN Hospital for medical aid but Pyari Devi was not lucky enough. She breathed her last on way to the hospital. Doctors declared her brought dead.
The accident reportedly took place after the tractor driver suddenly applied the breaks in order to save a passerby.
It may be mentioned that such accidents take place several times at the same slope each year but the Sangam police outpost or the traffic police personnel have taken no steps to curb the recurrence of such happenings in which more than dozen persons have lost their lives.
The best way to stop such accidents is to ensure than tractor trolleys carrying devotees to the Sangam from neighbouring areas be stopped by the police before they reached the bund.
People huddled in the trolley be asked to get down and walk down the slope to avoid any mishap, said Masuriyadeen, a resident of the area.
The same exercise should be repeated during the return journey, he added. If this is ensured no accident of this nature would ever take place on the slope again, he added. But nobody appears to be bothered for precious human lives.
Most of the police and traffic personnel are busy in the business of realising money from truck drivers. Safety of people finds no place in their scheme of things, he bemoaned.
