The BSF, Rapid Action Force and Provincial Armed Constabulary have been called in to step up security in the area.
Additional director general (law and order) Jagmohan Yadav rushed to the place on Monday.
Bareilly commissioner K Rammohan Rao said: “The situation is under control. Curfew has been clamped.”
Trouble started when a group of people at a teashop asked a kanwariya (a pilgrim carrying water to holy places) to switch off a loudspeaker playing loudly at the makeshift resting-place. This led to a scuffle between the two sides, which later indulged in violence and arson.
