Over 650 DMK volunteers, including 84 women, were taken into custody for blocking road traffic at nine places in Karur district, to protest against registering of an FIR against DMK president M Karunanidhi for alleged irregularities in construction of New Amaravathi Bridge in the district.

The volunteers shouted slogans against the government and condemned the 'vindictive' action of the government.
They also took out processions before blocking road traffic.
The CB-CID had registered cases against Karunanidhi and some other officials in connection with the construction of a bridge.
