While government sources refused to give any further information, well-placed sources within the investigating agency do not rule out the possibility that the woman, who visited India in 2007 posing as Headley's wife, could have been used for carrying out recce of the targets.

This information was shared with the FBI, which allegedly feigned ignorance about the same.

The woman travelled to Mumbai from Pakistan alone and stayed in the five star hotels for a few days before returning to the neighbouring country, the sources said.

Investigators suspect that the woman could be a Lashkar-e-Taiba activist and might have brought some documents along with her for Headley.

The sources also said the FBI has informed the Indian investigators that Headley was trained by Pakistan Army personnel to conduct a recce of the terror attack targets in Mumbai.

The Home Ministry, in the meantime, has issued an advisory to all states, where Headley had visited, alerting them that some of their vital installations could be targeted by terrorists, the sources said.
