Vir Sanghvi in There’s a method to their madness (Counterpoint, December 13), rightly analysed the psyche of Pakistan’s leaders. The nation’s hostility towards India has come to the fore on many occasions such as in 1947, 1965, 1971 and is palpable in the ongoing cross-border terrorism, including the 26/11 attacks on Mumbai. Incidentally, all problems with India have led to some unrest back in Pakistan such as a change of government post-1965, division of the country in 1971 and an army coup in 1999. The fact that our neighbouring country has never functioned as a true democracy speaks volumes for its true nature.
