He exhorted party workers to motivate villagers to allow their girls to take higher education for achieving success and goals in life. The minister was distributing Rs 20000 cheques of Kanya Vidya Dhan to around 400 girls in Gorakhpur. He said the scheme had boosted the morale of girls students motivating them to go for higher education. He claimed that the scheme was proving to be a boon for girl students.
Delivering his views on this occasion, district magistrate Dr Hariom, said for the academic session 2006, the district had been allocated Rs 13.40 crore under Kanya Vidya Dhan scheme. Girls’ parents whose annual income was less than Rs 35000, could apply for cheques by July 31. After verification of their papers and economic status, the cheques would be provided to them, he said.
SP MLC Rakesh Singh Rana, district unit president of the party Chandrabali Yadav, senior party leader Yogendra Chauhan threw light on the scheme and stressed that dropout rate of girls at school level should be checked. Principal of Government Jubilee Inter College, OP Rai, and Government Girls Inter College principal Sandhya Srivastava, also spoke on this occasion.
