The net result is that one has to spend long time, sometimes hours, just waiting in the vehicle for the jam to clear off.

However, in most of the places of the city including the vital spots there is no traffic cop to clear the jam. This has caused perennial problems.

Moreover, with the beginning of the summer season and the approaching extreme hot conditions, it will be increasingly difficult for the people if the traffic is brought to a standstill for hours and they have to wait on the vehicles.

Besides, these traffic jams are also a cause for the rising pollution.

In order to control these traffic jams, a scheme was formulated once under which parking places were allotted in different regions of the city to prevent vehicles from entering the busy markets.

But how far has this scheme been implemented ?

On being contacted Circle Officer (CO) Traffic, Arvind Mishra, said, "Efforts are being made in this regard. A team of Nagar Nigam, RTO and Traffic police officials has been formulated to find out where the parking place should be allotted".

"We are taking into consideration various places for the allotment of parking slots near Manmoham Park and Lakshmi Takies in Katra, on Parade Ground near Harshvardhan Crossing, at a park near Fire Brigade and at the park in front of Zero Road bus station", said Mishra. Besides, land near Cemetry Road which is adjacent to Allahabad Degree College is also given a thought but since that land is owned by army their permission is to be obtained before allotment of the parking place, added Mishra.

However, "Multi-storeyed buildings which are constructed for commercial or official purposes should also provide parking facility in the basement and thus help in checking jams", he suggested.

He further said that lack of civic sense among the people is also one of the causes for huge jams.

"Majority of the people violate traffic rules. They do not bother to follow the traffic signal or the manual system. And this is definitely a cause for the rising traffic jams in various parts of the city", added Mishra.
