THE CONDITION of parks in the city is likely to improve following the handing over of parks by Allahabad Development Authority (ADA) to Nagar Nigam (NN) a few days back.
The transfer of 198 parks has taken place following the directives of Allahabad High Court to ADA to hand over the parks to NN for their maintenance and beautification.
NN administration has carried out a viedography of the present condition of parks and the same would be done after the completion of beautification project. The film, as per the court order, is to be presented before the judges concerned.
However, as many as 60 parks which were given by ADA to private agencies for beautification purposes would not be taken back by NN considering their statisfactory maintenance by the private agencies, said the Municipal Commissioner Gaya Prasad. He further said that those interested in development of parks may get them allotted from the NN.
He said the gardeners working at NN have been appointed at each park.
Moreover the tubewells lying defunct would be set right soon in order to use them for watering the grass and other plants in the parks. He also said that the renovation of parks would be carried out by NN itself.
Meanwhile about a dozen staff have been posted by NN at two major parks--Sumitranandan Bal Udyan (Hathi park) and Bhardwaj Ashram Park with immediate effect to look after the work.
NN Park incharge Dr Shrish Chandra said that the number of animals and birds would be increased at Hathi Park to attract larger crowds. The NN engineers have been asked to submit the estimate with regard to the beautification project of the two parks within a week so that work may be started soon.
Fountains at Bhardwaj Ashram Park are not working properly in evening because of power cuts these days. However, the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation officials have been apprised of the existing situation at park.
Besides, the park's boundary wall is also in shambles, he added.
