DEVKI SHARAN had all hopes that he would get the best treatment at KGMU’s Trauma Centre after he got injured in a road accident.

He came rushing from Faizabad district. But, he could not even reach Trauma Centre as he was turned back from the Chatarwala railway bridge as doctors were on roads protesting against poor patient care!

The protest surprised Sharan and many others as thedoctors were themselves stating that their friend had died due to poor patient care at KGMU.

Ram Asrey of Bachrawan was here with same expectation for his 10-year-old daughter. But with much surprise, he too went back. “They told me that their friend died as they could not give proper services to him. I do not know if they would be able to treat my daughter so I am taking her back,” the father said while returning.

Not just Trauma Centre but the OPD of KGMU also remained without any patient as the students had closed it since morning. Over a dozen operations were postponed due to the demonstration by the KGMU students.

In the Medicine department, only five admissions could be done while one patient Left Against Medical Advice from the department.

At Trauma Centre only 10 patients could be admitted during the day while the average inflow of patients on normal days remains over 100. The road was blocked from Chowk crossing and Chatarwala railway bridge since afternoon.

This restricted the traffic and even pedestrians had to walk through the railway tracks. Schoolgirls trotted through the tracks to reach the school while elderly patients came with support of their kin.
