For this, the corporation has chalked out an ambitious Rs 64-crore plan. Its implementation, said UPPCL chairman and principal secretary (Energy), AK Khurana, had already begun on a war footing following the chief minister’s approval, and would be completed by the first week of December.
Under the scheme, the UPPCL will enhance capacity of the existing 11 sub-stations of 33/11 kv capacity situated at Behrana, Tagore Town, Daraganj, MES, Jail Road, Naini, Allahapur, Mayo Hall, Gaughat, Khushrobagh, and Rambagh. The capacity of 132 kv transmission sub-stations at Minto Park and a 220 kv transmission sub-station in the Cantonment will also be increased.
Besides, two of the six new 33/11 kv sub-stations, being set up in Allahabad, will exclusively cater to the mela area.The UPPCL has also prepared a Rs 7.5- crore plan to provide rural pockets around the city with power supply. They include Jhusi and Arail, which fall beyond the municipal limits.
Khurana said that of the Rs 64 crore, Rs 21.93 crore would be spent on setting up a permanent system at the mela site. He said 10 crore people were expected to visit Allahabad during the ‘Ardh Kumbh’. The project will ensure smooth and uninterrupted power supply not only to the mela area, but also to the main city and its periphery.
