Pilot error or aircraft problem could have caused crash

Pilot error or a problem in the aircraft could have resulted in the crash of the Air India Express flight near Bajpe Airport here today, a top airport official said.

Pilot error or a problem in the aircraft could have resulted in the crash of the Air India Express flight near Bajpe Airport in Mangalore on Saturday, a top airport official said.

"Since the aircraft overshot the runway, my guess is that the pilot could have erred in his estimation or there could have been some problem with the brakes, which resulted in the crash", Director of Bajpe Airport, Peter Abraham said.

"Normally the aircraft has to stop just before the end of the runway, but in this case it overshot the runway while landing. The aircraft is very badly damaged with its parts strewn here and there", he said.

Abraham said only the DGCA expert teams would be able to throw some light on the exact cause of the crash.
