As part of the entire exercise, the Union Government under its Jawahar Lal Nehru National Urban Renovation Mission (JNNURM) has assigned Feedback Ventures Limited to prepare a ‘City Development Plan’ for a planned development of the city.

The office bearers of Feedback Ventures Limited, which has prepared a development project kept the common people, including corporators, abreast about the merits of the project and sought their suggestions during an interactive session at the Varanasi Nagar Nigam (VNN) today.

Company consultant PN Dongre said that the ever increasing number of slum dwellers resulted into tremendous pressure on urban basic services and infrastructure.

He said that the thrust sectors to be covered under this mission were water supply, including setting up of desalination plants, sewerage and sanitation, solid waste management including hospital waste management, construction and improvements of drains and storm water drainage system, road network, urban transport and development of bus and truck terminals in the city.

He said that the prepared project for the city development would be submitted to State and Central governments for approval.

“To improve the urban transportation system, the projects identified under JNNURM are construction of ring roads, new roads, fly-overs, multi-level parking system, bus terminals, truck terminals, street lightening, provision for public transports etc., in Varanasi city,” Transport expert of Feedback Ventures Limited Sandeep Singh said.
