This was communicated to the PMO by the Planning Commission through an office memorandum dated June 10, in response to a request from West Bengal Fire Services Minister Pratim Chatterjee to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to have the Yojana Bhavan named after Netaji.
"The Planning Commission prefers to retain its present name of its premises as 'Yojana Bhavan'," Anil Malhotra, director in the Yojana Bhavan, said in the memorandum addressed to L K Atheeq, director in the PMO.
It is, however, up to the Ministry of Home Affairs to take a final call in the matter, the memorandum said.
Chatterjee, a member of the Forward Bloc (Marxist), said that during a visit to Yojana Bhavan, he had not found any picture of Netaji and had therefore suggested to the Prime Minister to have the building named after the hero to honour him.
