Players condole Hazare's demise

Indian and Bangladeshi players on Sunday observed a two-minute silence condoling the death of former Indian captain Vijay Hazare.

The Indians also wore black armbands in memory of Hazare who died due to intestinal cancer in Baroda on Friday. He was 89.

Hazare played 30 Tests including 14 as captain from 1946-47 to 52-53. He scored 2,192 runs at an average of 47.65 with the help of seven hundreds.

A technically accomplished batsman, Hazare was the first Indian to score century in each innings of a Test against Don Bradman's Australia in 1946-47.

In first-class cricket, Hazare, who played before and after Independence, aggregated 18,740 runs, that included 60 centuries and 73 fifties, at an average of 58.38.
