Please, I?m not acting in any film: Abhijeet Sawant
The first Indian Idol is miffed about reports of being dropped from a film by producer director Rakesh Sawant.india Updated: Jan 30, 2007 13:33 IST
In an industry that is ruled by rumours and feeds on speculation, the news that producer director Rakesh Sawant would be making a Rs 10 crore budget film with Indian Idol Abhijeet Sawant hit headlines way back in August 2006.
The director also happens to be Rakhi Sawant’s brother. He announced a film titled April Fool with the first Indian Idol Abhijeet in the lead role and a bevy of beauties.
Although Abhijeet was not quoted in any of the reports, the trade said that his debut film would be shot abroad, preferably Bangkok. Now the producer says he has decided to drop Abhijeet as the lead, although he has ensured that he will still sing for the film.

A week ago, Sawant made news again when he said that he had screen-tested Abhijeet, but did not think he looked mature enough to handle five beauties in the film. “I am sure he was keen to act, but I need some one more polished to play a Casano va- like character,” says Sawant.
“I am in talks with others like Shaan to play the character, but Shaan is averse to kissing scenes in films,” he adds.
Sawant also says that he is in talks with Riya Sen and Kim Sharma to play leading ladies. He adds that the film will be shot from mid-February in Malaysia, and will be ready for release by the year-end. “Abhijeet will of course still sing for my film,” the producer says.
Abhijeet says he has neither heard from Sawant, nor has he ever signed a film of that name. “I did read some months ago that he was talking of casting me, but that’s just a rumour. I have never met the producer, and my efforts to contact him to clear the air have been in vain.”
Abhijeet says he is happy enough working on his second album, due for release in April, and providing playback for a forthcoming Mukesh Bhatt film. “I wish people wouldn’t do such things for publicity.” But then with a title like April Fool, anything’s possible.
