US President George W Bush and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh launched summit talks in New Delhi on Thursday. The talks centred around a nuclear deal seen as the bedrock of a new strategic partnership.

The two leaders shook hands and posed for photographs before entering Hyderabad House, the Foreign Ministry's venue for leadership talks.

The talks were expected to focus on attempts to seal a landmark nuclear deal that would give India access to critical Western technology, as well as bilateral economic ties, officials said.
