PM, President pay homage to Narayanan

President Kalam and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh pay homage to former president KR Narayanan on his first death anniversary.

President APJ Abdul Kalam and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday paid homage to former president KR Narayanan on his first death anniversary.

The president, prime minister and United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson Sonia Gandhi arrived at Udaya Bhoomi, the memorial of the former president near the Rajghat, early on Thursday and paid floral tributes to the late leader.

All religion prayers were held at the memorial, where several friends and admirers, including Defence Minister AK Antony and Overseas Indian Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi, remembered India's first Dalit president.

Narayanan's wife Usha and other family members were also present.

Naryananan, who hailed from Kerala, was the tenth president of the country.
