PMK protests detention of party secretary under NSA

The Pattali Makkal Katchi on Wednesday alleged that the government was resorting to political vendetta by getting one of its party functionaries arrested under the National Security Act.

"The government is wrecking political vendetta against PMK by resorting to stringent provisions of NSA to detain the Karaikal unit functionary K Devamani," PMK Puducherry wing convenor and legislator R K R Anandaraman told reporters Puducherry.

CID had booked Devamani on Tuesday under NSA for allegedly attempting to illegally transport Sri Lankan Tamil refugees to foreign destinations in October and also for allegedly committing offences under the Essential Commodities Act by hoarding diesel.

Police have also claimed that there are several cases against Devamani, including under IPC which necessitated his detention under NSA).

He said that PMK volunteers, headed by him, would stage a demonstration in front of the office of Regional Administrator in Karaikal on Nov 22 demanding Devamani's immediate release.
