The police said that locals set ablaze an autorickshaw and pelted stones seriously injuring policemen Hemant Timung and J Bordoloi while protesting the death of a youth in a road accident at Bokoliaghat on Monday night.

The mob also took away the service revolver of Timung.

The police fired to disperse the mob and three youths were injured in the firing, the sources said.

District superintendent of police Anurag Agarwalla went to the spot and brought the situation under control.

Seven people were arrested, the sources said.

Timung was shifted to Guwahati Medical College Hospital while Bordoloi and the three injured youths were admitted to Diphu Civil Hospital.
