Police-lawyers clash: HC reserves orders

The Madras High Court reserved orders on a batch of petitions filed by advocates in connection with the February 19 clash between the Tamil Nadu police and advocates in the Court premises.

The Madras High Court on Wednesday reserved orders on a batch of petitions filed by advocates in connection with the February 19 clash between the Tamil Nadu police and advocates in the Court premises.

A specially constituted Bench, comprising Justices F M Ibrahim Kalifulla and P Banumathi, reserved their orders after hearing arguments from Tamil Nadu Advocates' Association President S Prabhakaran, senior advocate R Vaigai, Madras High Court Advocates' Association President R C Paul Kanakaraj and others.

State Advocate General PS Raman argued on behalf of the government, while senior Delhi advocate Rajiv Dhavan was counsel for 12 senior police officers, 10 of whom, including then city police chief K Radhakrishnan, had been transferred after the incident.

The Judges viewed photographs and video recordings of the incidents, made available by the both parties.
