A case of forgery has been registered against N Gingee Ramachandran, who represents Vandavasi constituency, for submitting affidavits of some 60 party members of the MDMK-led by Vaiko in a dispute before the EC, official sources said.

Sources said the affidavit was filed by Ramachandran in 2007 to prove that he has been elected as the leader of the party instead of Vaiko following a dispute.

The Commission, during its scrutiny, found that some of affidavits were forged and asked the Delhi Police to register a case early this year, the sources said.

Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK), which is a recognised party in Tamil Nadu faced a dispute with two rival group claiming that it was the real party. Both the groups had filed affidavits claiming majority support.

"But, there were some affidavits filed by Ramachandran which were challenged by the rival group," sources said.

"On the basis of documents on record, the Commission felt that prima facie there is a ground for enquiry into the issue and directed police to file an FIR against Ramachandran for filing forged affidavits," sources said, adding an enquiry is on at the moment.
