A DOZEN persons who had hired a van and had gone to forest to gamble while savouring nature’s bounty had a shocker when the Sukhi Sewania police got wind of their arrival and caught them on Friday.
The police have seized the van, two motorcycles and Rs 76,000 cash that was at stake. The gamblers, most of them traders and contractors, had gone in a Maruti van to the jungles in Bhadbhada in the day. The police caught them red-handed.
SHO Sukhi Sewania Purnendra Singh said that 12 persons including Vijay Kumar, resident of Piplani, Mahesh, resident of Tila Jamalpura, Virendra Singh, resident of Minal Residency, Narendra, resident of Kamla Nagar, Anil Goswami, resident of Arera Colony, Jai Ram, resident of Saket Nagar, Subhash, resident of Habibganj, Rajendra, resident of Saket Nagar, Kishran, resident of Ayodhya Nagar, Ratan Yadav, resident of Indrapuri, Vijay and Rambhagat were caught.
Rambhagat, a driver, has a van attached to a private school for ferrying children. He had been hired for Rs 500 to bring the gamblers to the forest and take them back in the evening.
The forest locally known as Kali Beed ka jungle has reportedly been a favourite for gamblers in the past also. The van RJ-3124, two motorcycles, Rs 76000 cash and cards were seized. The accused booked under the Gambling Act.
