Power cuts give sleepless nights to residents
POWER CUTS are back to haunt the city after a few months’ spell of uninterrupted electric supply. Unscheduled power cuts late night are compounding the sultry, humid heat, compelling residents to pass sleepless nights. Earlier, power supply continued uninterrupted through the night with rostering scheduled for morning.
Senior Congress leader Diwaker Singh and corporators Nabiullah Ansari and Mohan Agrawal said it was painful to bear late night power cuts.
He demanded that power cut at night should be suspended and added that the supply was snapped abruptly for three hours on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday on the pretext of emergency rostering. They said sometimes it’s restored for a short spell of time but two hours power cut in night leaves people sleepless.
School going children are the worst sufferer as they have to get up early morning to go to the school but due to lack of sound sleep they feel tired and sleepy. The apathetic attitude of the officials in repairing the complaints have also compounded the problems.
When contacted, general manager power corporation Suresh Ram told Hindustan Times that emergency rostering for three hours on Monday night was due to suspension of power supply from the north grid. He said he had contacted the control system in Lucknow, which had assured that Gorakhpur was exempted from late night power rostering was conducted only in emergency.
