Prez son Abhijit wins Jangipur LS by-poll

Abhijit Mukherjee, son of President Pranab Mukherjee and Congress candidate on Saturday won Jangipur Lok Sabha by-poll by 2,536 votes over his nearest CPI-M rival Muzaffar Hussain in Jangipur Lok Sabha seat in West Bengal's Murshidabad district.

Election Commission sources said at the end of ninth round of counting Mukherjee bagged 1,93,864 votes while the CPI-M nominee polled 1,87,323 votes.

There will be a total 16 rounds of counting.

The by-election was held on October 10 as the seat had been left vacant after Pranab Mukherjee was elevated to the highest office of the country.
