A reporter and a cameraman of a private news channel were allegedly attacked by a doctor in the government General Hospital in Chennai when they were working on a report on hardships faced by patients due to an autorickshaw and taxi strike in the city on Tuesday.
In a complaint lodged with police, the TV journalist Sam Daniel said he was interviewing some patients near the hospital's portico when a doctor objected to it, saying no shooting could take place in the premises without permission from authorities.
The doctor, who identified himself as the Resident Medical Officer, allegedly attacked Daniel and cameraman T Devaraj and handed them over to a police outpost in the hospital where they were detained for over 45 minutes.
Following the intervention of senior police officials, they were released, the channel sources said.
The doctor and police allegedly tried to smash the camera and "destroy evidence of the assault", Daniel said in his complaint.
