Probe focuses on ?abduction? of CAL secretary

SSP Varanasi Navniet Sekera told the Hindustan Times that family members of the victim had met him on Tuesday and a police team from the crime branch of the district was probing the matter. He said primary investigation indicated that Khan was kidnapped for ransom.
STF sources said the two youths who had called Khan on pretext of offering him contract of the NTPC had talked to him in Varanasi on the latter’s cell phone. It indicated that Khan was picked up by the gang in Varanasi. However, cops had yet to trace more details or identify the gang.
Sources further revealed that the modus operandi of kidnapping indicated that it was handiwork of a major gang. Cops were keeping close watch on the activity in and around Khan’s house as the gang could contact anybody close to the victim for ransom any moment.
Meanwhile, a delegation of sports persons, including UP Olympic Association secretary Anandeshwar Pandey on Tuesday evening met Principal Secretary Home Alok Sinha and demanded immediate and safe return of Khan. In a memorandum given to Sinha they demanded that the entire sports fraternity in the State capital was shocked and immediate action should be taken in this case.
