“This exercise is going to take two months,” Gopalaswami told reporters here on Wednesday. The CEC heard the views of political leaders and common people who had raised objections about the proposed delimitation of constituencies of Ghazipur, Chandauli, Mirzapur and Sonebhadra on the second day of the open hearing here.
Asked if the Commission was going to initiate any action against the senior IAS and IPS officers who attended the celebration of three years of SP at the party headquarters in Lucknow, Gopalaswami said, “The election dates have not been announced.” To a specific question if action would be initiated once the election dates are announced and model code of conduct comes into force, the CEC said, “I cannot comment on it right now.”
As the proposals of delimitation of constituencies in this part of the state evoked strong objections, the CEC was asked to comment on such objections and the response was, “We have heard everybody patiently and would keep our eyes open while deciding on such matters.”
Earlier, the CEC amid tight security heard the objections and suggestions of representatives of the four districts. One Chandravati Devi of Ghazipur suggested the CEC to visit Dildarnagar constituency to see how the people of this area would be affected in case this assembly segment is shifted with Mohammadabad and Jamania.
