Promote religious tourism

Talking to Hindustan Times at MGKV on Tuesday, he said, the efforts of Pune-based social and religious organisation, ‘Pune Navratri Mahotsav’ for developing Varanasi and Pune as sister cities on pattern of Bremin city (Germany) and San Jose in USA is worth appreciation. He said adding that such efforts should be promoted for strengthening national unity and integrity.
“I shall talk to the mayor of Pune, who belongs to the Congress to get a fruitful result in association with the municipal corporation of Varanasi in this direction,” he said.
It may be noted that a group of poor pilgrims from Maharashtra in thousands led by former mayors and concillors of Pune Municipal Corporation under the leadership of Baba Ulhas Alba Bagul, arrived in the city for two days on January 11 and 12 and explored possibilities of promoting religious tourism between the two cities. The group members also laid down the foundation stone of the Maharashtrian Dharmshala at Ramnagar here.
Earlier, he released a book by eminent historian and head of the History department of MGKV, Prof Parmanand Singh. The book is titled, ‘Mahatma Gandhi ki Itihas Dristhi’.
On the occasion, addressing a gathering of teachers and students, he highlighted the life and personality of Mahatma Gandhi and said his philosophy was relevant in the present scenario. He called upon the students to be disciplined and respective to their teachers.
Presiding over the function, MGKV vice-chancellor Prof Surendra Singh also highlighted the life and personality of the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi and his philosophy.
He cited several examples of struggle by Gandhiji for safeguarding the rights of Indians in India and South Africa.
