To keep the enclosures of the small animals and birds cool, khus curtains have been put and water is sprinkled on them regularly.
The moats in enclosures of tiger and lion are filled with water.
It acts as a natural air conditioner for the inmates. Often these big cats sit in the wet moat to keep themselves protected against the summer heat.
According to zoo director Hemant Kumar the water pots in all the enclosures are filled thrice a day as the drinking water requirement of the animals has considerably increased during summers. Besides the ponds for Rhino are filled so that the big animal wallows in it.
Kumar said the zoo staff had been instructed to operate water lifting pump as and when the power supply was received to meet the water requirements of the inmates.
To keep Hippopotamus and Rhino cool, water showers are given to these animals.
The director said the summers accompanied with power cuts aggravate the water worries of the zoo administration.
Though there was an adequate number of pumping sets in the zoo premises, but they lie non-functional in the absence of power supply.
