Protestors attack Swiss bank with paint bomb

Activists staged protests around Switzerland against the World Economic Forum, including a paint bomb attack on the country's national bank, police said Sunday.

About 100,000 Swiss francs ($78,000; euro 65,000) of damage was caused at the Zurich headquarters of the Swiss National Bank, which was attacked with bottles filled with paint, city police said. It was unclear who was responsible.

The World Economic Forum is hosting a gathering of world leaders next week in the Swiss Alpine resort of Davos. Germany's new chancellor Angela Merkel is attending, as are Pakistan's President Pervez Musharraf and UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan. Other protests took place over the weekend around Switzerland, including in the capital Bern and the cities of Basel and Geneva.
